Closing An Account At Bank Of America ?

Ok I Closed My Account At Bank Of America Today And I Was Wondering Because It Was A Joint Account And I Only Wanted My Name Taken Off And My Money Taken Out Because Even Though It Was Me And Other Person On There I Was The Only One Using It And But They Said I Had To Close The Whole Account In Order To Get My Money And Name Taken Off. So If The Other Person That Was On The Account Wants To Reopen That Same Account But Only In There Name Is It Possible?
