Downloaded the new Itunes- how do I stop it from re-downloading previously purchased items?

So I just downloaded the most recent Itunes, and now every time I open up Itunes it automatically starts downloading every single things I have purchased on Itunes in the past (over 700 items!), and most of these purchases are already still in my library. I've tried pausing it or manually deleting all the items in the queue but each time I reopen Itunes it happens all over again! How do I make these downloads go away forever?
