Growing Lettuce in water?

Lettuce can grow hydroponically. You would need light, root cubes and circulating fertilizer solution. If you have the set up, it would be much easier to start the lettuce from fresh seed instead of digging the plants up. The plants wouldn't adapt well and they will be ready to harvest soon anyway. Lettuce is a cool season crop so you could grow in the greenhouse in the winter.
